It is not that difficult to repair a broken swivel rocker recliner, but you will need more than just a screwdriver! The supplies that you will need are as follows:
- Screwdriver
- Pry bar
- Hammer
- Swivel Clips
- Swivel
- Rubber Mallet
Once you have the supplies, it’s time to get to work.
The majority of the time when a swivel rocker recliner gets broken the problem is from a broken swivel. This is why you should avoid putting a large amount of weight on the back of the recliner. When the swivel is broken it makes the chair very difficult to turn. If you find that the swivel is the problem with your favorite chair, you need to call the manufacture of your recliner and order a new swivel. You may also be able to contact parts specialist on the internet.
Once you have received the swivel from the manufacturer its time to fix your recliner. Go to your recliner and lay it own its side and remove the original swivel from the base of the recliner. You may have to push down the lock system to unhook the base or it may just be attached by screws. If it is attached by screws, simply unscrew the screws.
The third step, once you have the swivel detached from the base, is to inspect the swivel and find out what got broken. Be sure to inspect the clips to see if they are broken. If the swivel doesn’t do anything at all, than the clips are the probable suspect. At this point you may need to lift up the broken swivel with a pry bar and twist it off.
Next, pop out the clips by hammering a screwdriver into the base of the clips. Make sure to clear out all the clips and get the ones that are stuck in the base of the wood. Once you have all the clips removed, be sure to take the new clips out of the packaging that came with your new swivel and twist the new clips onto the base. Be sure to tap the clips into the base with a hammer or a rubber mallet. Once you have done this, place the new swivel into the clips. Once you have the swivel installed to the base, move it around to make sure that it moves. Finally, replace the base of the chair on the new swivel.
